Word Hoard

William S. Burroughs, accosted by black meat centipedes, the ever-patient mugwump and the fires of his own hellish appetites, takes us through his junk sick writing process.

Starting a Webcomic!

It's funny. I came to art school so that I could become better at making comics, and while that may have happened, the general attitude toward comics and most other forms of representative or symbolic art at the particular institution I'm convocating from are derisively called "illustration" with the connotation that illustration and art are two strictly separate and mutually exclusive domains, with illustration always being treated as far, far below art in terms of significance, value, relevence and worth. As a result, few classes really helped me directly get better at the actual 'construction' and codified visual vocabulary of comics, which is actually something I was hoping to chiefly work on, and in all but a couple of classes, comics were discouraged or scoffed at enough that I eventually continued to work on comics alongside school-related works, turning out a lot of longer stories and to-be-continueds, but I had lost touch with the simple raw zen-like completeness of the one-page comic strip. And so, this week I have been spurred to action and have been drawing a lot more comic strips than ever before. They kick ass, so I decided to start a webcomic.
Presenting: NUTRIENTS
I'm going with tumblr for ease of sharing the comics, and this blog will still be updated with comix, drawings, and all the other vitriol and inanity you've learned to accept from this website.

The poster I made for an art show me and some other fine fiends are in.. If you're in Vancouver I DO urge you to attend!

Mouse Flower

Photobucket
This is a plan I'm working on- to be able to grow a floral garden inside the corpses of beloved pets.
I have three rats in the freezer, and have a dead mouse that I'm going to grow a flower in as a test.

Dumb and Dumber

Guess what I watched the other night.

Huhuh huh huhuhuh huhhuh heheh mheh mhehehmm

Whenever I watch Beavis + Butt-Head, I always feel an unholy compulsion to draw their birth-defected little nebbish features.
Also, if you haven't yet seen the new season of Beavis & Butt-Head, go to your preferred piracy outlet or mtv.ca/.com and do yourself the favour of watching it.

Jacked In

It's 2012 and if you're an idiot, the apocalypse is just around the corner, but if you're an optimistic idiot, maybe you prefer to believe "armageddon" is just code for "THE SINGULARITY", the idea that we will make machines as smart as us and the internet will go neural, locking everyone into each other's brains like a giant skype buddies list, turning the planet into one schizophrenic, cyberdelic utopia.
Or, you know, maybe it just is a nice way of saying we're all wasting our time on the computer... It's art dingus.

"Spare Any Change?"

Preview of a "Vancouver Sights" scavenger hunt bingo that I'm putting together.

This kid is spanging to get back to Coquitlam. They're abundant in the summer, especially on Commercial Drive!

The Circus Dork, with his pinstripes, wallet chain, costume shop bowler and twirly moustache replete with soul patch. Burlesque shows are crawling with these kids who never ran off to join Barnum & Bailey.

Ahh, the Junkie Strut. What day cavorting about Vancouver would be complete without a few of these stiff-wristed, cramp-armed be-boppers puttering around town on autopilot like busy little bugs?

Seven Deadly Sins

Thought I had a gig with a shirt design company but after a couple drawings the dude just stopped getting back to me. Lame.
Anyway, it's been a month or so so I'm posting the design I had the most fun with: The Seven Deadly Sins. It was really open-ended direction, he just said draw the seven deadly sins.

SOLITUDE

Photobucket

Because one comic hyperbolizing my misanthropy and social anxiety JUST wasn't enough!
Trying out a few new things here:
It's all done with brushes.
I rarely colour my comics.
All colours are derived from the primaries.
India ink and gouache on some thick-toothed printmaking paper.

Heathen Deity

Photobucket
Piece for a drawing class about a year ago-- the assignment was to do a self-portrait, I decided to depict myself as a divine spiritual beast, replete with mighty pen, brush, axe and absinthe, as well as my first rats [X and Viktor] and every cat I've ever had.
